In this silly tale, 10 year old twins Nate and Lisa Zupinski are bequeathed a rubber chicken by their surfer dude older brother, Dave, when he takes off “to ride the waves on far off shores” in Malibu, California. Nate and Lisa quickly discover that this rubber chicken is no ordinary rubber chicken-- he is supernatural.
At first, Nate and Lisa want nothing to do with the supernatural rubber chicken, until they both decide the chicken’s powers are essential in helping their friends, Ashley and Benny. There’s a mad race to determine who the supernatural rubber chicken (named Ed, by the way) will help first, but it doesn’t matter when class bully Hulk Paine becomes involved. The end result is surprising and will leave readers hungry for the next installment.
The series will appeal to young readers who need a lot of action and very little character development to keep their attention. The Supernatural Rubber Chicken series will find a home in larger public libraries.
